This is the classic outback duster coat. Its rugged construction and hearty design is perfect whether riding the open range or the urban trails. Make it in canvas or denim for a traditional look, microfiber or crinkle nylon for an updated water-repellent version.
The original version, View B, is ready for the range with wrist tabs, elbow patches, and a detachable shoulder cape. Leg tabs and the long fantail vent in center back cleverly wrap around to form a type of legging for added body and saddle protection while riding. The front opening is covered with a rectangular flap for wind and rain protection, and the partial lining adds warmth.
The basic, clean shape, and essential details alone comprise View A - an over-everything coat. The raglan sleeves with wrist tabs, rectangular collar, collar tabs, and patch/flap pockets add just enough style to this unlined duster, which can be made in a few hours.
Both roomy coats fasten with heavy-duty gripper snaps and can be made in a variety of fabrics, water-proof or not. Pattern includes information about authentic detailing, waterproofing, and instructions for a knit pullover sweater.
This pattern is available as a Paper pattern and PDF pattern. Choose the
pattern format you want in the drop down menu. The PDF pattern has instructions and files for copy shop (36” and A0), print at home (A4 and 8.5”x11”)
Suggested fabrics: Medium-weight denim, canvas, poplin, wool, linen; ripstop nylon, microfiber, or other water-resistant fabrics.

Correction: Some versions have the Center Front of the coat labeled as Center Back. This is obviously incorrect. Please disregard the Center Back label and consider it the Center Front.
Also, note that the illustration on the front cover is an artist's rendition of the pattern. The coat actually buttons on the reverse side than illustration shows. But, you can reverse the instructions to have it button the other way.
