Misses' Extra Small to Extra Large.

This fully-lined Cocoon Coat sewing pattern is based on a design of Paul Poiret, a renowned early 20th century fashion designer.  It is Poiret who is remembered for freeing women from the 19th century corsets (although he then hobbled them with extremely narrow skirt hems) and for modernizing the Victorian silhouette. As the Parisian Designer explained, I like a plain gown, cut from light and supple fabric, which falls from the shoulders to the feet in long, straight folds, like thick liquid, just touching the outline of the figure and throwing shadow and light over the moving form

The fully-lined Cocoon Coat offered here was first designed around 1913-1919. The pattern featured bat wings sleeves, one piece front/back body, neckband, and hobble skirt. The style is timeless and looks just as stunning with a T-shirt and leggings as over evening clothes.

The Reticule (drawstring bag) is typical of the same period. The easy sew pouch closes with decorative cording and is embellished with a tassel that hangs from the bottom.

Suggested fabrics: For Coat, medium- to heavyweight fabrics with drape, such as velvet, silk charmeuse, heavy rayon, or jersey. For Reticule, same as for Coat, also satin and blends. For Linings, satin or blends with similar drape and weight to outer fabric.

The PDF pattern has instructions and files for copy shop (36” and A0), print at home (A4 and 8.5”x11”).
